Amy, What a great soul you are! I loved hanging out and talking. You were such a fun person to hang out with because you were such a good listener and some of us obviously needed more attention than others. I probably didn't let you get a word in edgewise. I am so sorry I got too big for my britches when we got to high school. You were a good friend that I loved to be with and I probably didn't treat you that way. I just didn't get it until my senior year and maybe not even then. I recall coming out of the ultra self absorbed fog sometime during my senior year but maybe that didn't show because I had hurt too many feelings with my tough guy personna. Amy, how's life treating you these days? David
I spent one summer living and working in New York City (1989) and another summer traveling in Europe (1993).
I graduated in Political Science ... or as the professors mentioned to those of us in line from the College of Arts and Humanities, "The Unemployment Line."
I moved to Vermont (by way of Memphis -- Graceland!) just to try something different. After a couple years there, I moved to Boston for a few months, then started missing the west coast, and moved back to Utah and worked in Salt Lake City for a couple of years.
I got antsy in SLC and decided to pack up everything and head to Ecuador in search of a friend I'd met while living in Boston. En route to Ecuador, I stopped in Costa Rica for a couple of weeks and fell in love with one little town in particular (Orosi for those of you who might be familiar with it) - then went down to Ecuador.
It took me a few days to find my friend. I finally reached her mother and she said "Maria is married, has a baby, and is leaving for the United States TOMORROW!" So -- she helped me find her and we got together that evening before she flew back to the states. I stayed in Ecuador for a few weeks, but never found the magic I discovered in Costa Rica, so I decided to just go back to Costa Rica!
I stayed as long as I could - but the money started to run out, and a good friend was getting married back home ... so I decided it was time to leave paradise and get back to the real world.
Once I returned, I decided I should find a place that I might want to stay for a while. I decided to try Portland. Even though I'd never been to Portland, it seemed to have what I was looking for. So, I packed myself up and came to the Northwest. That was in 1998, and I'm still here.
I have a dog -- and because of the dog, had to buy a house. I work as the Technical Project Manager for Powells.com, a large independent bookstore here in Portland.
But, I travel just for me as much as I can manage. I try to go to at least one big film festival each year. I worked at Sundance for several years, and recently started going to the Telluride Film Festival. A couple years ago I walked in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in NYC. Last year I spent a month in Cuba in the winter, then a couple of weeks in Mexico in the fall. I'm working out the details for a trip to Spain later this year.
Outside of working, I enjoy photography and filmmaking. It's mostly just for fun - but I have gotten some freelance work out of both hobbies and sometimes consider taking it more seriously and doing it full time. Though, I'm a bit spoiled by my current job - both because I really enjoy it and because I enjoy the stability of a "regular" job.
I'm still not certain if I'll be able to make it to the reunion or not, but if I don't, I'm happy for at least a little bit of reconnection with some of you!
I'm incredibly easy to find online (amycgx almost everywhere), drop me a line!

Just like the rest of you ... I can't believe it's been 20 years!
Here's a quick rundown of what I've been up to since we've lost touch:
Went to school at Utah State and worked at Hastings.
I spent one summer living and working in New York City (1989) and another summer traveling in Europe (1993).
I graduated in Political Science ... or as the professors mentioned to those of us in line from the College of Arts and Humanities, "The Unemployment Line."

My siblings and parents are (and/or have been) scattered around in Alaska, Montana, Colorado, Idaho, Virginia, and Arizona. So, a lot of my traveling is visiting family.
