What a cool way to touch bases with people! There you go, Stolworthy, outdoing yourself again. There are so many people I can't wait to see and laugh with and catch up with at the reunion. I am excited to reminisce with everyone and go home with my face tired from smiling and my stomach sore from laughing at Jason Fenton's fun jokes and lovable personality. And people like Mickelson who couldn't have said it better when he said, "it's good for you to know me!" I can't wait.

6smithereens!!?? I want in!

It's funny ... but my strongest memory of you is probably from the 6th or 7th grade talking in the middle of the street when we lived kitty corner from each other in Providence.

Hope all is well. And really - I'd love to read the blog!

Well, the first posting was under my wife's blogname, hebgengirl, because I am a moron. My blogname is BrotherSmith because I would forget most anything else, not to be pretentious. My bio would be something like this:
I went down to Snow college to play football with the likes of Kevin Olsen and Mike Hansen and loved it down there (this after vowing I would never go there during a youth conference that seemed to be extremely boring and strict in the dress code) I went on a mission to Geneva Switzerland and it changed the way that I saw other people and what was really important. I met my wife at Snow College after my mission at a country western swing class of all places. After going to USU for a quarter before we got married, we moved all of our stuff to Los Angeles in our Mazda and went to Occidental College. That just didn't work out and we moved back to Salt Lake City and I finished up at the University of Utah because I couldn't find any housing at USU. I got into the Seminary Teaching Program and made it. I had to laugh when I saw that Kelly Woodbrey was doing the same thing seeing as how I got kicked out of Brother Thatcher's class for poking Kelly in the back of the head with my pencil as he was bobbing his head falling asleep.
I now have four children (Spencer 14, Bekah 12, Emma 9, and Benjamin 5) and seeing things from a parent's perspective helps me when I am in the classroom with my students. I have recently had one of my former 9th Grade students become ultra famous. David Archuletta really was a humble, quiet, talented young man and still is. It's just that now millions of fans know it too. He sang a jazzed up version of happy birthday to me just before he went into seclusion in Hollywood with American Idol. I love teaching Seminary and trying to relate to kids that don't get it like I didn't get it then. I live in West Jordan and have fallen in love with golf, a game I detested because I was so bad in my ward golf tournaments (something Brian Hancey and Mike Beck and Brian Russon can readily attest to). I've also enjoyed running for the first time in my life now that it isn't training for another sport. If you're reading this and you loathed me because I was a jerk to you, please forgive me. I think sometimes Seminary teaching is an ironic twist to help me help kids that are like I was.

It sounds like everything is great in the land of the Smithereens! I love the pictures of your kids! Spencer looks just like you! Adorable!

I can't imagine what you were like in high school that's got you thinking you were a jerk ... I have nothing but fond memories. But ... all kids are kind of jerks at that age, right?

Well ... except for me. Always an angel :)

Dave,

Okay, your darn blog wouldn't let me on it, said I wasn't cool enough or something. What's up with that? After 20 years, I'm STILL not cool enough? :) It said I wasn't invited to read it. Send me an invite! Our family blog is TheRussonsBlog.blogspot.com, which will have way more info on it than you'll ever want to know!

I'm trying to get down for the reuinion but I'm up in Seattle and having some issues with kids schedules and such. Hopefullly I'll make it and we can catch up.

Dave,
It was good to see you got on the website. Remember that it was your fault you got kicked out of seminary class - and not mine. Brother Thatcher is a character. He works in the central office and hasn't changed. My memory of you in Seminary was at the beginning of our senior year - we had an upfront devotional and Janalee Crowshaw punched you in the stomach and you went down! (I think you were walking on the desks or something like that). I am glad you are doing great in the classroom. Teaching seminary is an awesome experience. I hope to see you at the reunion on Saturday. I won't be at the homecoming game because I will be officiating at the Pleasant Grove game. Deep down we all knew you were a good man. Keep smiling.

After all of these years I accept your apology...maybe I will start letting my children ride the school bus now.:) You know how they say oh---they are just teasing you beacause they like you---HA!!! I think maybe Lance Starr liked me but what was up with you???
I do forgive you :)

I am not surprised at all that you are teaching seminary---I bet you are WONDERFUL and very entertaining. My daughter can't even fathom having seminary as part of your school scedule!!!

After reading some of these bio's I can't help but thinking that I really had no idea what great people I went to church with...you sound to have turned out to be such great Daddy's, Husbands,Wives and mothers...kind of fun to see how lives unfold!!! How and where are you family???

Okay so everything I have been reading says that you were such a "moron" to everyone in high school. I can say you were always very nice to me. We had some good times in little old Providence together and I only think you said one thing that may be the root of all my problems but with much therapy and time I have come to forget it, I think ;). So stop being so hard on yourself, you were kind to at least some of us.

My Dear BrotherSmitty:

How long it seems since we were chillin at Snow, let alone the ol' MC days (a whole two years longer). It's reassuring to know that your memory is suffering from deficeincies similar to mine. Perhaps a few too many noggin thumpins as we ran amok over all comers? Maybe so.

Such an interesting 20-year progression--from kicked out of Seminary to teaching it. I was thinking that I can't believe you're teaching Seminary, but it's SO you. And I'm sure you're not as animated as you once were, right? LOL...nah, I don't think so. Some things really never do change.

Lookin forward to catchin up with you and meeting SisterSmitty, as well.

Well Dave, it has been a long time since climbing cliffs along the Cote D'Azur, Monte Carlo-ing, and turning left at the 10' statue of David...
Teaching seminary...I wouldn't expect you anywhere else! Good to hear from you-

Hola Brother Smith,

So you've busied yourself spreading the gospel to the Youths of the SL valley. Good to hear it.
I have enjoyed looking at your wife's blog, and the curly-headed version of YOU! He looks like you, but instead of the 80's new-wave-mullet I fondly remember you sporting, he has shaggy curls. Your family looks wonderful, which I am going to credit your wife for, more than you.

BTW, you did something to me way back when.....but I forgot what it was, so I guess you are off the hook. :)

Wish I could chew the fat with you, but I won't be coming to this one.

Big Cheese,

I just read your bio and the smile is still on my face. Reading it brought back all of those grade school through high school memories. It will be great to see the only other person that I know, besides myself and Susan Anderson, who got kicked out of seminary. It will be great to see you again.

A Seminary teacher? It's hard to believe. I recall you carried me from the seminary building to the school so my cast wouldn't get wet and I know it was just so you could leave seminary early! It's good to hear about you.

I really just thought you hated me in particular, so now I won't take t personally. You were still a lot of fun to have around. It's so great to hear you are doing so well and I bet you are great at your job. Hope to see you at the reunion.
